First Annual Commemorative Event

IN HONOR OF THE 160TH ANNIVERSARY OF CAILLOUX'S HISTORIC FUNERAL

Saturday, July 29, 2023, 5:00pm-7:00pm

The procession will begin at Esplanade Ave & Claiborne Ave, merge onto Bayou Rd and end at the Andre Cailloux Center for Performing Arts & Cultural Justice (St. Rose de Lima Church) at 2541 Bayou Rd.

Saturday's event is a smaller part of a larger project which will include a 6 vignette light show series telling the story of Andre Cailloux's Legacy, a Black Bodies Mattering: Then and Now symposium, operatic and theatrical performances, all leading up to the reclaiming of his death date in May 2025 in a formal American Civil War Reenactment of Cailloux's Historic Funeral Procession.
