2nd Annual Commemorative Event

IN HONOR OF THE 161ST ANNIVERSARY OF CAILLOUX'S HISTORIC FUNERAL

Monday, July 29, 2024, 6:00pm-8:00pm

A beautiful Candlelight Vigil was held in honor André Cailloux’s historic funeral. As a Creole Free Person of Color, it seemed only fitting that we honored him at Le Musee de f.p.c. the only free people of color museum in the country with the support of the Louisiana Creole Association, McKenna Museums, and Xavier University of Louisiana. There were beautiful performances by OperaCréole, Mikhala Wolsgaard-Iverson and Women of Wakanda and heartfelt readings and speeches by Councilman Eugene Green, Al Jackson, Beverly McKenna, and Mark Roudané.

We thank our funders, The Jazz and Heritage Foundation, Alembic Community Development and Newcorp Inc.
